Dr. Benjamin Hicks

Dr. Hicks grew up on a farm in central Illinois, where he learned to value both self-discipline and the beauty of rustic simplicity. He developed a love for Greek and Latin during his college years at Asbury University in Wilmore, KY, which blossomed into a Master's degree from the Department of Classics at the University of Florida and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin. His scholarly work focuses on the intersection between philosophy and poetry in the late Roman Republic and early Empire and upon the nature of Roman Satire. Dr. Hicks enjoys teaching all levels of Latin at Founders Classical Academy and has taught 7th through 12th grade students. One particular passion of his is the pursuit of relational wisdom, which enhances the quality of his classroom, and which he hopes will enable everyone he meets to enjoy the fullest and richest life possible. In his spare time, Dr. Hicks enjoys running outdoors, hiking, listening to and playing music, playing strategy games of all varieties, and practicing the ancient Epicurean concept of emotional tranquility (ataraxia) by sitting peacefully in a chair with a book in his lap and a purring cat nearby.
